Why

Hydrogen plays an important role in reaching the targets of the Paris climate agreement for 2030.
Over the last decade people always spoke about hydrogen as the fuel for the future.
We want the world to know that the future has started. H2storage can deliver part of the solution to fulfill the climate agreement of Paris today. We can continue discussing about the best way to store hydrogen under high pressure, cooled and liquified, in ammonia or in any other optimized way in the future. The fact is that we are able to store hydrogen today under high pressure, and use it as an energy carrier for the fuel cells or combustion engines in a car, truck, van or other heavy duty application today.

In 2018 André started the company H2storage BV with 3 partners. We at H2storage believe that hydrogen is a perfect storage- and transport solution for clean energy. Hydrogen will play an important role in the energy transition process.  With the back grounds of the H2storage partners (energy sector, composite industry and automotive) the decision to start developing a hydrogen high pressure composite (type-4) tank was the logic choice.

With the H2storage solution it is possible to cover the supply chain for compressed hydrogen from production, transportation, storage and final uses.

Now, 4 years after the start of H2storage BV, we have tested the prototypes and are in the process of the certification of a tank. We are starting up the production of the pre-series for the first integration projects of our 700 bar high pressure storage tank.

We are personally driving a Toyota Mirai and travelled, without any limits and emission, all over  Europe. Of course we have planned the routes in order to refill with hydrogen at available stations.

The idea of the road trip started brainstorming about an introduction event for our H2storage high pressure tank, once we have finished our certification process.
We were wondering how we would be able to show the world what game changer we have developed with our tank at H2storage and not only show technical fact and figures of the tank. Then the idea grew to André his mind to show the world that with the right storage and planning we can prove that there is no limitation today to really start the transition to hydrogen. What better way to do this with his wife, Els, through a road trip of 12.000 km along the European coast and show the possibilities and share this with the rest of the world. After sharing this with his wife and business partners everybody was very excited about the idea.

Then André and Els started checking what kind of routes through Europe would be possible. A trip to all European capitals, crossing Europe from East to West or from North to South? As they love the sea and coasts, they came to the route from Norway to Turkey across the European coast and decided to go for this challenge. From Oslo to Istanbul (approx. 12.000 km) in 100 days showing that traveling through Europe without any emission is possible in Hydrogen.

The countries we will visit are:

  1. Norway 🇳🇴
  2. Sweden 🇸🇪
  3. Denmark 🇩🇰
  4. Germany 🇩🇪
  5. The Netherlands 🇳🇱
  6. Belgium 🇧🇪
